Colby Pharmaceutical Company is developing a new class of small molecule Oxidative Stress Modulator (OSM™) drugs targeting major metabolic pathways producing changes in intracellular oxygen free radical levels that drive Prostate Cancer (PCa) and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). The Company is focused on clinical development of its two lead drugs CPC-100 and -200 for surgery/radiation refractory PCa prior to detection of metastasis. Two drugs have distinct and unique mechanisms of action that target two different Oxidative Stress (OS) generating sites within major cellular metabolic pathways. CPC-100 will enter Phase I/IIa PCa clinical trial in 2008 for patients with rising PSA post-hormone-therapy and CPC-200 will enter Phase I/IIa PCa clinical trial in 2009 for high-risk patients with rising PSA pre-Hormone therapy. Colby’s two pipeline OSM drugs CPC-300 and -410 for patients with metastatic PCa pre- and post-Chemotherapy, respectively, are now in pre-clinical development with federal grant funding.
Colby is a Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) spin-out company and is strategically aligned with the Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center (UWCCC) at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The company has exclusively in-licensed three of its four OSM™ drugs from WARF and has operations in Madison, WI and Menlo Park, CA. The company has well-developed clinical drug development with clear routes to existing multi-billion dollar markets of PCa and BPH. Colby is establishing renewable and sustainable revenue generation opportunities from product sales and through research contracts, partnering or out-licensing of drug candidates. The Company has demonstrated therapeutic proof of concept and safety in animal models through studies funded from approximately $15 million dollars of non-dilutive grants to collect sufficient data required by the US FDA for filing Investigational New Drug (IND) applications for both the CPC-100 (lead) and CPC-200 (co-lead) drugs.
Colby’s management team includes David Zarling MA PhD MBA, CEO, who was previously CEO of Pangene Corporation (PGC) a drug target validation and services spin-out company from SRI International. Hirak Basu PhD is Chief Scientific Officer, is expert in Phase I/II Oncology drug clinical development and was formerly Associate Director of Oncology Drug Research and Development at Slil Biomedical Corporation, where he brought two oncology drugs into clinical trials.
