 Business Plan Summary - 5-8 Pages

You will be able to upload your business plan at the website www.midwestventuresummit.com once you have submitted the above Executive Summary and paid your $175.00 non-refundable fee.  Upon payment, you will receive an email that will confirm your user id and your password.  Please log-in at www.midwestventuresummit.com and you will be prompted to upload your business plan.
 
This summary should highlight the most important points of your business—those that will convince potential investors that your venture will succeed.
 
Please review the following characteristics to identify your company as either "Early Stage" or "Series A+".

Early stage companies typically have:

  • product or service in development
  • key management in place
  • have done initial marketing or pre-sales
  • friends & family money invested in the company

Series A+ companies typically have:

  • already received institutional/angel money
  • are seeking investments to expand working capital or marketing and sales capabilities

The following requirements apply to all submitted business plans:

  • Cover Page: Must include company name, contact person and title, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address and stage of investment.
  • Company & Strategy
    • Define business purpose
    • Provide summary of your company’s history and current status
    • Describe important features and benefits; relate to market needs and competition
    • Describe existing products and status of new projects (projected release dates, expected product life, potential revenues, etc.)
    • Discuss pricing and margins for both your products and your competitors’ products
    • Explain proprietary position (trademarks, patents, trade secrets, special production skills, processes, etc.)
    • Articulate any relevant regulatory or environmental issues
  • Market & Marketing Strategy
    • Market analysis: size, anticipated growth, key changes, trends, etc.
    • Market strategy: How are you going to reach the market? What channels will you use? What is the cost of distribution, promotion, pricing, etc.?
    • Product/service: What makes you different? What gives you a special advantage?
    • Evaluate competition: Who are your competitors? How much of the market do they control? What are their advantages/disadvantages?
    • Discuss the issues or circumstances that drive or create the market: What compels people to buy?
  • Management
    • Give brief background of key individuals, including relevant industry and entrepreneurial experience
    • Review history of working together as a team
    • Identify immediate and future personnel needs and initial organizational structure
  • Financial Summary
    • Provide revenues, income, and expenses projected over 3 – 5 year period
    • Justify your financial assumption; include any financial history
    • Define funding requirements. How much is needed at each stage of development within the next five years?
    • Indicate the preferred exit strategy; compare with similar businesses and their results.
  • Business Plan Summary - Your business plan summary should not exceed 5-8 pages and must be submitted in .pdf format.  The cover pages are not included in the 5-8 pages.
