Go Child Grow is an early stage company focused on producing children’s video content that emphasizes kinesthetic learning: learning through action. According to Dr. Lisa Thornton – Director of Pediatric and Adolescent Rehabilitation at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine – “All children learn best when they are actively involved.” In 2006, Go Child Grow founder Candi Carter collaborated with Dr. Thornton to create engaging children’s video content emphasizing kinesthetic learning. Candi then utilized her experience as an award winning producer for The Oprah Winfrey Show to create Go Child Grow’s first line of products – It’s Hip Hop Baby! It’s Hip Hop Baby! has received amazing response from both parents and children. Over 1,000 units of It’s Hip Hop Baby! have already been sold, and in February 2008, Rhino Records – a Warner Music Group subsidiary – will be providing Go Child Grow with a $50,000 advance to gain exclusive distribution rights to It’s Hip Hop Baby!’s full product line, as well as all subsequent Go Child Grow products. In the wake of a growing childhood obesity epidemic, as well as the widespread familiarity of “The Mozart Effect” – which explains the transformational power of music in the promotion of health, education, and well-being- Go Child Grow is uniquely positioned to become the next big name in the rapidly expanding $6.5 billion children’s video market (2008 market size projection).
It’s Hip Hop Baby! is an educational DVD for children ages 2-6. The video is organized as a series of skits, with a variety of children singing and dancing along to traditional children’s classic songs. The twist is that It’s Hip Hop Baby! engages children in a unique way by spicing up these classic songs with hip hop beats and rhythms. According to Packaged Facts, hip hop is currently the most popular music genre in the U.S. among people ages 15 – 29, and continues to grow in popularity every year. Furthermore, hip hop has evolved from a music genre into a cultural phenomenon that transcends race, gender, economic, geographic, and social boundaries. With its increasing influence on young people, hip hop is the ideal format for Go Child Grow to launch its initial product line to capture valuable market share. In subsequent years, Go Child Grow will launch new product lines based around different genres of music.
It’s Hip Hop Baby! is different from other existing children’s videos in that it is interactive. While there are a variety of children’s learning products on the market, none manages to accomplish what It's Hip Hop Baby! does: compel children to exercise as they learn. With childhood obesity rising at an alarming rate nation wide, It's Hip Hop Baby! represents a critical shift in the paradigm of children’s education. According to the Centers for Disease Control, "one of the important contributors to childhood obesity is a lack of physical activity." They identify childhood obesity as a public health priority and recommend that parents find ways of increasing physical activity in their children.This is precisely what It's Hip Hop Baby! seeks to do: provide parents with an educational tool that links learning and exercise in a format that will be fun for children.
