MicroBlade, an emerging leader in the design and manufacture of embedded systems, is developing a leading suite of differentiated, proprietary products built to the newly established MicroTCA Standard.
To capitalize on the benefits of standardization in design and associated economies of scale, embedded systems are often designed to conform to established standards. The MicroTCA standard was recently established to replace VME and other standards. It is anticipated that the market for products and components designed to the MicroTCA standard will grow dramatically for the next several years; to that point, Venture Development Corporation forecasts a 322% CAGR from 2006-2012 for MicroTCA products, and forecasts global revenues to reach $3 Billion by 2012, across diverse sectors including telecom, enterprise, military, and medical. MicroBlade commenced sales in December 1997. Among initial customers are a number of the leading strategic concerns in the embedded systems business, including GE Fanuc, EADS (Airbus), Actel, and others. Several of these companies have indicated that MicroBlade is their preferred provider of MicroTCA hardware and others have initiated discussions with MicroBlade with the intent of reselling MicroBlade products on an OEM basis. MicroBlade distributes its offerings through a tiered structure, including direct sales representatives focusing on large accounts, OEM relationships, and catalog and direct Internet sales for smaller customers and orders. Manufacturing – which is currently internal – will be migrated to contract basis by late 2008. The Company is led by Mr. Mike Franco, a veteran industry leader who was formerly VP R&D for Artesyn, which was acquired by Emerson Electric for $576MM. Mr. Franco led the committees and subcommittees that developed the MicroTCA standard. He also formerly founded and sold Signal Stream Technologies, which was sold to Merge Technologies. | |
